Laura Tyson
Member of President Obama's Economic Advisory Panel, where she is an integral part of a team of advisors assessing the measures needed to get the U.S. economy back on track
As a speaker, Dr. Tyson articulates global economic issues and the real world challenges and solutions facing world markets today. Offering unfailingly frank, direct and principled advice, Dr. Tyson forecasts economic trends for specific industry sectors, prospects for world trade and international markets.
An economist interested in “real world” economic problems, Dr. Tyson has earned her reputation as an authority on U.S. economic competitiveness, global markets and the high-tech industry. As Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors and as National Economic Advisor, Dr. Tyson was the highest ranking woman in the White House and was responsible for managing economic policy-making throughout the executive branch of government. In these roles, she was a key architect of the domestic and international economic strategy that fostered the longest and strongest period of economic expansion in U.S. history.
Dr. Tyson became London Business School’s first female Dean in January 2002 – the first woman to head a top-10 international business school. Previously, Dr. Tyson was Dean of the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. During her tenure, she was the only woman to lead a major U.S. business school. Prior to that, she was Professor of Economics and Business Administration at the University of California and winner of its Distinguished Teaching Award.
Before joining the Clinton Administration, Dr. Tyson published a number of books and articles on industrial competitiveness and trade, including the highly acclaimed book Who’s Bashing Whom? Trade Conflict in High Technology Industries. She has written numerous opinion columns for such publications as The New York Times and Financial Times.
She is a Senior Advisor to the McKinsey Global Institute and serves on the Board of Directors of the Brookings Institution, the Peterson Institute for International Economics and BRUEGEL, an independent think-tank on European economic policy.
